Tips on how to save your internet data to last longer

The rate at which your data is used depends on your phone and then the applications you install. First, I will discuss how your phone enables high data consumption and then the applications.

Higher versions of android phones which support 4G network and above consume data faster than lower versions with 2G and 3G network. This is one of the reasons your data runs out so fast.

Aside from the phone, the Apps on your phone consumes a lot of data. Most smarphones Apps are programed to run on background mode, which makes the Apps automatically update itself, download videos and pictures in background, especially like WhatsApp, sending and receiving others internet data in background. All these happens without you being aware, and can cause your data to run out so fast.

The following tips will help you to conserve your data.

  • If you are using higher version of Android phones with 4G network support, switch to a 2G or 3G mode to save your data. Although, this will cause your internet speed to be slow.
  • Disable automatic updates for your applications to stop your Apps from updating without your notice or enable Auto update only over Wi-Fi.
  • Turn on data saver. Most smart phones have this feature to be able to regulate the data usage when your data is on.
  • Set a mobile data limit. This feature allows you to set limit of data usage, once the limit is reached, your phone automatically notify you of data usage limit. This can also help to save your data.
  • Turn off your data when transferring files to another phone using Apps like Xender. If your data is on when transferring files, your hotspot is also on which will allow the other phone to access internet through your phone.
  • Manage data on social media applications. For example, disable auto play video on Facebook. Disable media auto download, roaming, calls settings on WhatsApp. Enable Data saver on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube.
Those are the tips and tricks I apply to make my internet data last longer.
